City of Corpus Christi Undergraduate Scholarship
Through our partnership with the Western Governors University, the City of Corpus Christi offers a $2,000 scholarship for undergraduate students.

The City of Corpus Christi is committed to supporting our employees’ professional growth. Through our partnership with Western Governors University (WGU), we’re proud to offer the City of Corpus Christi Undergraduate Scholarship Program, providing financial assistance to help newly admitted students achieve their bachelor’s degree.
We are proud to offer the City of Corpus Christi Undergraduate Scholarship Program, a one-time award of $2,000 to support eligible employees pursuing undergraduate degrees at Western Governors University (WGU). This scholarship is intended to cover some of the costs for one six-month term and is exclusively for newly admitted students.
Eligibility for Consideration
- Must be a current employee in good standing with at least one year of service.
- Must have High School Diploma or GED
- Must be a newly admitted student to an eligible undergraduate degree program at WGU.
- Must be pursuing a 4-year undergraduate degree (certificates are not eligible).
- Must have supervisor’s approval
- Must enroll in an eligible major
- Includes all undergraduate majors in the Schools of Business and Technology, as well as the B.S. in Public Health. Contact Organizational Development to confirm other specific majors.
- This is a one-time scholarship.
Scholarship Application Timeline
Application Window: April 8, 2025 – May 4, 2025
Application Review and Selection Announcement: By May 30, 2025

Submit your completed application, including:
- Proof of WGU acceptance (official letter).
- Proof of your program of study.
- A 500-750 word essay.
- Signed Supervisor Approval Form
- An updated Resume
Important Notes:
- This is a one-time scholarship for new WGU students.
- WGU also offers a 5% tuition discount to all City of Corpus Christi employees.
- This scholarship cannot be combined with tuition reimbursement for the same semester.
